3 Popular Eczema Products That Are Unpopular With My Sensitive Skin
When it comes to trying new products for my sensitive skin, it has often been a hit or miss. While I have found many things that have worked for my skin, I have also had some unexpected experiences with popular products. A number of these popular products are ones that many other eczema warriors seem to find relief or success with, but for some reason do not work for me at all.
Below are three of those products that are marketed for sensitive skin that just happened to not work for me specifically.

Cetaphil
For me, this product just didn't seem to make any significant difference for my skin. Whatever hydration or lubrication it offered was very short-lived. It felt almost as if as soon as I applied it on my skin and it started to soak in, that it felt like it disappeared. It was almost like putting a thicker version of water on my skin that would just dry up and evaporate. My skin would continue to feel dry afterwards. Sometimes, it even remained as itchy as it was before I applied this product.
Aveeno
Because this brand markets itself as being very gentle for sensitive skin, I had high hopes when I started to use this product several years ago. I would try to use their colloidal oatmeal lotions. And really hoped that it would be different from other over-the-counter products I had tried previously. But while this product was a little bit thicker-and I did feel a slightly better form of moisturization for it-it seemed to sometimes make certain rashes worse and more itchy. I just found myself feeling very disappointed. I even tried some other bath products with oatmeal and it did not help me at all.
Lavender Oil
When it comes to natural, botanically-derived products like essential oils, I am generally a fan. But unfortunately with lavender oil specifically, I find that it actually makes my skin feel itchier, especially on my face and eye area. I don’t know if it's because of the oil itself or if it's just very concentrated and I need to dilute it more or use a product that has less of it in it. But whenever I see it in the ingredients list for skincare products, like for certain natural sunscreens or lotions and my skin is itchy, I find it makes me feel more itchy. While I like the smell of lavender and it definitely does calm my nerves to smell it as aromatherapy, I'm generally not a fan of it for topical treatments or products like lotions and sunscreens.
