Can atopic dermatitis cause cardiovascular issues?

Are people with atopic dermatitis at a higher risk?

  1. Some studies have shown that conditions involving systemic inflammation like atopic dermatitis have shown elevated rates of cardiovascular disease, heart attack and stroke for adults. However other larger studies have found that there is no connection between the two. There are several independent risk factors for cardiovascular issues such as smoking, alcohol use, obesity, depression, hypertension and sedentary habits which may be more prevalent among those with atopic dermatitis. It is important that you work regularly with your health care provider to manage these risk factors.
