Such an odd rash, that I thought I'd find a forum and ask about it.
Three years ago, my left hand progressively developed a very large, circular, very pink/red rash. It had clear borders and did not itch.
Went to two MDs and two dermatologists. Tried full separate courses of triamcinolone and ketoconazole, doxycyline oral. Did two biopsies, returned inconclusive.
All diagnosed as unknown allergic dermatitis. Finally resolved after 2-3 months.
Two weeks ago, same rash appeared in exact same location. In my mind, that ruled out acute allergic contact dermatitis. What are the odds I'd come into contact in the same location with the same allergen three years apart?
Current MD has started clotrimazole/bethametasone. Difference this time is redness/rash is obviously and noticeably UNDER the outer layer of skin. I'm not sure if that's part of the healing, or if it's something notable clinically.
Very odd to me. I've been told so many "possibilities", from pityriasis rosea to tinea to urticaria to atopic dermatitis, but the key observations to me are it has recurred in the same location three years apart with no known common allergen, does not itch and does not respond to antifungal or steroids.
Any ideas?
