Wedding Planning Eczema Style

As a little girl, I always dreamed of my wedding being the best day of my life. Yet I never dreamed of it being stressful and on top of struggling with eczema. I didn't know how much detail, steps, and organization you have to have prepared for a wedding.

My partner and I have been together for six years now. I knew the question of marriage would come soon, but I didn't fixate on it as many girls do. I'd always tell myself when it happens, it will be the right time.

Our proposal

While traveling to Mexico in December, I got engaged on New Year's Eve 2020. That night there was a New Year's Eve party at my boyfriend's ranch, and there was a mariachi playing the whole night. Once the mariachi was close to leaving, he proposed by singing a song.

Of course, I said "yes" after a few minutes of not talking or knowing what to say due to the shock.

Excitement for my dream wedding

At that moment, I was excited about what was to come.

Every girl's dream is to have a wedding and be with their "prince." I didn't know that wedding planning is actually hard and expensive. As someone who loves to plan and stress about every detail, I thought this would be easy for me.

Stress triggered eczema

Stress always impacts my eczema and is the trigger of many of my flare-ups. That is why I have been working on myself to reduce stress and calm my body more as I start this journey.

As of now, the wedding will be in September 2022. I will be graduating from my master's program in August and will have free time before the wedding.

My wedding dress

When planning a wedding eczema style, I think about things that a bride without eczema wouldn't probably think about. The first thing that came to my mind was the dress I would wear that day. I have always dreamed of a V neckline dress, but with my eczema hyperpigmentation, I had to rethink my ideal dress.

Hyperpigmentation and scars

I am still trying to get used to my skin changing two years ago now. My skin is covered in scars and hyperpigmentation. Self-love is hard when you are dealing with an illness like this. I know who I invite to my wedding will be people who love me for who I am, not my skin. Although, I am still feeling a bit self-conscious about my skin. That is why I have decided to wait longer to start dress shopping.

The venue

The second thing that came to mind was the location. I had always dreamed of having an outdoor wedding because everything is more romantic. My ideal wedding would be in a winery outdoors - allowing small candles to light up at night and beautiful flowers all over the place. Yet, I didn't think about my allergies to pollen, dirt, and grass. Recently I have gone to outdoor birthday parties and other events.

Allergies and facial flares

My allergies had acted up even when I used allergy medication, which is why I will be looking for an alternative allergy medication option to help me get through my wedding day. The last thing that I thought about while wedding planning with eczema is makeup and facial eczema. I have been experimenting with different kinds of makeup from cruelty-free, vegan, and all-natural products. To help me find the perfect combination for my skin not to react. While researching, I have been looking for products to help my skin look less dry, scaly, and inflamed.

Embracing whatever happens

I know these obstacles might seem like they are not that big, but to me, they are. I don't know how my skin or life will be during that time next year. So I am going to enjoy the process and embrace what happens. With eczema or not, I will make the best wedding for myself and my partner.

Also, I want to remind myself that it is only one day and to remember to stress less.

Does anyone have any wedding planning tips to help reduce stress? Any tips with eczema and dealing with a wedding? (dress, details, or ideas)
