AD and psychiatric medicine

Hey guys,
This is my first post, just discovered this amazing app 15 mins ago. I almost cried of joy ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

I've always had really sensitive skin with tendency to itch, rash etc. Since my parents weren't exactly available for me during my childhood, I was diagnosed with AD at the age of 35. At last!!! Some answers.

But its not only my skin that's always been so sensitive. It's other physical parts, and nonetheless, emotional/spiritual.

It was the terrible experience of Covid and the long healing process that triggered everything that hadn't gotten the proper attention.

So, aside from AD I dealt with A LOT in the last couple of years. Rehab, diagnosis of ADHD, complex PTSD,ixed Anxiety and depression disorder.

Step by step, Every part of me received the love, attention and clinical treatment. Nowadays, I am in the process of matching a suitable psychiatric medicine.

And this is where the AD kicks back in. I've tried using a really Lamodex which was great, but it flaired my AD like crazy. Which my psychiatric was aware of and concern about, but it is a rare side affect so we tried. Now im using staquis and Telfast pills to treat it.

Am trying a new medicine, Lustral which is from a different family, SSRI. No known skin side affects but there could be stomach side affects and I am also sensitive in the stomach.

So, first I wanna just, get this off my system: BEING SO SENSITIVE IS HARD!!! You know?!

And second, I would very much like to hear other people's experience with psychiatric meds in relation to your AD

And if anyone sympathises with my holistic approach on sensitivity, do holler 😀)

  1. Hi there, ! Welcome to our awesome little community here - so glad you found us.

I completely understand and empathize with your experience. I also struggle with ADHD, C-PTSD, anxiety, and depression. AND I also completely relate the sensitivity aspect as I am a highly sensitive individual as well. Although I'm not on any anti-depressants at the moment, like SSRIs, I do still take some psychiatric medications, and have quite literally been on every kind of medication in the past at some point. I had a really hard time with psych medications from the start of my journey with that at 17 years old. It was always extremely hard to find a medication that worked for me and didn't give me crazy side effects. By the end, as far as SSRI and SNRI go, the only ones I tolerated okay were Cymbalta and Celexa. I found I did better on SNRIs rather than SSRIs, personally. I don't take either of those now, thankfully, as my depression is better managed, but completely relate to needing to.

Being sensitive is in indeed, very hard - a blessing and a curse. I've struggled my whole life to embrace that part of me and learn to be okay with it and look at it as a gift rather than a curse. But I'm still very much a work in progress! Please keep us posted on how it goes, I hope the new medication does better for you. And we are all always here if you have any questions or need to talk! Sending you lots of love and good vibes. -Nina (AtopicDermatitis.net Team Member)

    1. Hi there, Noy! Really happy that you found us! You can always be sure that someone here will be happy and able to listen to your concerns. My word, you certainly have a lot on your plate to deal with. It must be so tough to have all these conditions. I personally have no experience of psychiatric meds in relation to AD but perhaps other members in our community have, so keep an eye out for any responses to your story. I've linked an article here about psychodermatology - you may find this helpful or at least interesting. https://atopicdermatitis.net/clinical/psychodermatology . Thanks again for sharing!
