Eczema Triggers in my own House - HELP

Hi,

I've recently moved into a new house and around 3 months in, I got a terrible eczema flare up on my eyelids after I was sanding some plaster which went all over my face.

That was over a month ago now and I've been away for the weekend twice since, both times it completely cleared up but it came back as soon as I got home again.

I'm looking for some help on what could be causing this, I'm at my wit's end with it! Any advice would be appreciated please.

A little more info if you're still reading:
The main issues are my eyelids (they're really red and dry and I wake up every day with really swollen eyes), my hands and wrists and also my nipples.
My house isn't (particularly) dusty or mouldy.
I can't think of anything I've changed, like my laundry detergent or anything like that, however I could have missed something seemingly insignificant.

Thanks in advance!

  1. Hello! I hope everything is going better now. I had a similar experience when I moved houses. Have you used an air purifier before? When I lived in an apartment this helped me out a lot and I stopped flaring. I hope you find some relief soon.

    1. Hi Nina, thanks so much for your reply.

I haven't had allergy tests done yet; I've always suffered with eczema but it's always been very mild and never on my eyes. This will be my next step though as it's showing no sign of going away...

I've just been using natural creams and balms (Dr Organics and Balmonds) which were helping slightly but not eradicating the issue. They've not been too bad lately, but then I woke up this morning and they were really itchy and I couldn't stop myself from rubbing them and now they're worse than ever!

      Thanks again,

      Ailish

      1. we're hoping you're feeling a bit better this week! I agree with Nina and think allergy testing might be helpful to figure out what the triggers are! Have you thought more about scheduling that? All the best, Sam S. (AtopicDermatitis.net, team member).

    2. hi . First off, welcome to our community! Glad to have you here 😀 Second, I am so sorry to hear you are experiencing this, and unfortunately can completely relate as I've dealt with eczema and allergies most of my life, and figuring out triggers can be tough sometimes! I can imagine the frustration and discomfort this is causing.

Have you ever gotten allergy testing done? (patch testing, in particular) If not, I would highly suggest that, as maybe it is something in the plaster or paint, etc that is in your house causing it. Contact dermatitis can unfortunately last for quite a while after being exposed to the allergen. If you haven't already, seeing an allergist may be beneficial. (By the way, if you are interested or need more help with allergies in particular, we have a sister site I am also part of at www.allergies.net). Just wanted to throw that out there in case you ever need it!

Also, may I ask if you are using anything on your skin now? Has there been anything at all that has helped? Sending you lots of love and healing energy, and hoping you get some relief soon! -Nina (AtopicDermatitis.net Team Member)
