Is sugar causing my eczema breakouts?

This is my first post here, but I was looking for advice or some insight on this issue. I’ve noticed in the past 2 years, everytime I eat any kind of bread or sugar I develop these bumps on the back of my legs and inside my forearms. Sometimes it’s worse and it spreads all over my body. I’m wondering why this happens. It’s super frustrating because I feel like I can’t eat/ enjoy food normally. Any insight would help thank you!Bumps from sugar

  1. I personally know too much sugar is never good for me - skin condition or not. I did do a full candida cleanse at some point, but to be honest in my case, it didn't do much for my skin, unfortunately. Now, I eat SOME sugar (mostly natural like fruit), but I make sure to eat it in very low amounts as I know it's just not good for us anyway.

Since you mentioned bread as well, have you ever had allergy testing or checked to make sure you don't have gluten intolerance (celiac disease) or anything like that? -Nina (AtopicDermatitis.net Team Member)

    1. It could be related to yeast like candida. Yeast feeds on sugar and carbs. You could try a yeast cleanse or go on an anti-candida diet. You could also find a holistic doctor that could help you with gut testing and healing.

      1. I just like everyone else do not know for sure and I'm sure it varies in different people, but I've also thought about this. The more i think about it though, I think maybe how the insulin responds from the body might have something to do with it? Refined sugar has a pretty strong insulin reaction. But things that turn into blood glucose I think is also a culprit. Like starchy things, too much protein also turns into blood glucose from what I understand.

        1. Hey - That looks really itchy!! You might have a point about sugar being the trigger. We cannot know for certain but I know that when I cut out all refined sugars, my skin was far more manageable and clearer. Though we all react differently to certain things. Maybe you could get in touch with a nutritionist and see what they say? What do you use to treat your eczema? Thanks for sharing with the community. Pete (AtopicDermatitis.net Team Member)
