My Hair & Nails
Every week in our eczema/TSW Meetups, we make it a point to celebrate something, so I'm celebrating my hair and nails. Why? Because I think that talking about something other than my skin might be healthy for me, and it's a good reminder for us to appreciate our bodies in their entirety rather than always nitpicking at our skin and complaining about how dry and flaky it is. In a way, this is me expressing some self-love.
I love my hair and nails
So, what features of your body do you like? What do you find beautiful and attractive? I was always complimented for my hair and nails, and I have to agree. I do have lovely nails and hair! I don't know if this is just because marketers are good at their jobs, but I thought maybe one day my nails would be brittle because my skin definitely was. But that day has yet to come, and I am grateful. Same for my hair. To be clear, I am not bragging. I am just taking stock of what I have and how ironic I think it is that both my hair and nails have been pretty unaffected by topical steroid withdrawal. Other than a bit more hair loss than average over the years, TSW has not ravaged the hair follicles on this head and the cuticles on this set of fingers and toes.
How have I kept my hair and nails looking nice?
Have I done anything particular to care for my hair and nails, and is that why they have always been in such a fantastic state? If you think about TSW, it was caused by me "caring" for my skin, pointing out imperfections, and applying a seemingly healing solution to the affected area. And what has occurred now that I have used topical steroids? TSW has wreaked havoc on my skin through the years, different spots at different times, but nearly every part of this skinsuit. As for my hair and nails - have I ever upheld a certain care regimen for them or applied a "miracle cure" to make them "beautiful"? I don't even own a hairbrush - I haven't for nearly 10 years now. So No. Never. Unless you count the years where I purchased an impressive array of nail polishes and was quite religious about always having my nails painted. Or that one time my aunt wanted to use her miracle home remedy on my already luscious locks and smeared straight up Best Foods mayonnaise all over my head. I guess when it came to my hair and nails, I didn't question my good fortune and just trusted that my body would care for itself, and luckily, it did.
Celebrate our bodies
So as we make sure to celebrate our wins every week at the eczema/TSW Meetups held by our own Ashley Ann Lora, let us also make sure that we celebrate our body for what it already does for us. For the beauty it already shows up as. What parts of you do you absolutely adore?
