Bamboo

Eczema Bamboo Growth - 90 Layers Shed!

You and I are like the commonly known “Chinese” bamboo tree, my eczema friends. The bamboo tree appears to lay dormant with no growth in sight for 5 years, suddenly sprouts to 90ft tall in 5 weeks! Comparing growth to the bamboo tree is a widely spread tale. Let me tell you why it connects to eczema too.

Are all of your efforts lost?

Has your eczema ever felt unresponsive, no healing in sight, while day after day you are taking care of it with no change? If you’re reading this, the answer is most likely a roaring DUH! Well, just like the bamboo tree that requires daily watering and constant attention, yet it takes years to finally see the benefits of labor, eczema is the same.

Putting in the work, for what?

Topical steroid withdrawal is my most recent connection to bamboo tree growth, but ultimately this idea of growth equally relates to my lifelong experience with eczema. Morning after morning, day after day, night after night, “watering” my skin. Daily early mornings to prepare my skin for the day ahead, nourishing my body with the right foods and proper sleep. The endless cycle for your body and mind only to take weeks, months, or years for the seemingly stubborn, unchangeable eczema to one day disappear. Eczema to “disappear” from the surface due to the daily nourishing care from the inside to one day show glowing skin. Skin that glows so effortlessly that the world will notice. That clearer or less itchy skin that makes you feel 90-feet tall!

Healing takes time

Everyone’s healing time and process is different. The outside world may never know the work you put in every day and we may not always know the fight our bodies/immune systems are putting in so that we will have our most glorious futures. But when it happens, it happens, and there is no denying it.

A look at how far I've come

To look at me today 3 years post-TSW along with my ups and downs still dealing with chronic atopic dermatitis is still a spectacle, even with bumps in the road. When my skin is clear, I feel 90-feet tall, but the part that everyone doesn’t always know is that even when my skin wasn’t clear, I knew that I was only a step away from relief with time. I knew my body was still working in my favor. So, in a matter of time, with trust and acceptance, I'd learn I've always been 90-feet tall just from the inside first. Simply a tiny seed being maintained until the time comes for the outside to catch up with what my body can truly do.

Keep persisting!

Your bamboo growth is right around the corner with the right work, knowledge, and patience needed for your body and eczema cycle. Maybe you’ve experienced bamboo growth before with your skin but are currently in the cycle of the seemingly dark planted seed with no light in sight. That’s ok, I get back to those moments too, but if you don’t give up and trust the process and appreciate the roses in the meantime, you’ll wake up one of the mornings of your daily routine and see you shed more than 90 layers of skin and keep seeing the journey clearer.
