Drug-induced Lichenoid Eruption

It would appear that my apparent atopical dermatitis was, in fact, drug-induced lichenoid eruption caused by irregular use of an NSAID, Celebrex (Celecoxib).
After four years of the occasional Celebrex tablet prescribed for osteoarthritis, I stopped taking it in February 2024 and started noting a reduction in inflammation within about three months. It took almost twelve months for the rash to completely disappear.
If you're wondering why my Dermatologist had not picked this up sooner, I had inadvertently failed to list Celebrex on my medications.
A biopsy indicated a lichenoid problem and the Dermatologist asked me again about my medications. As soon as I said Celebrex she threw her hands up in dismay/relief. Two years of unbelievable irritation and treatments due to my careless oversight.

  1. I will always be dealing with the effects of sun-damaged skin growing up in Australia but the dermatitis has gone. I'm very fortunate. Peter

    1. Hi, CommunityMemberca7e10 , I hear how frustrating this must have been, but I am so glad you were able to get to the bottom of the issue and see some relief. How are you doing today? Best, Sam S. (Admin).
